ACUPUNCTURE (TCM)
CUPPING THERAPY
Acupuncture is a key component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in which thin needles are inserted into specific points in the body. It is an ancient form of medicine which has been supporting the health, well-being and recovery for thousands of years.

Acupuncture is the art of balancing the flow of energy (known as Qi) in your body. By inserting thin needles to specific points in your body, it triggers your body to react, stimulates nerves which may boost your immune system and your body's natural painkillers.

TCM focuses on all factors that support your health and well-being (physical, mental and emotional symptoms) rather than simply focusing on factors that cause the condition.

The common conditions we treat and provide relief are, but not limited to:

- All muscle injury and pain (shoulder, neck, leg, hip, elbow etc.)
- Chronic back pain;
- Sciatica;
- Digestive disorders;
- Chronic fatigue;
- Infertility;
- Insomnia;
- High cholesterol;
- High blood pressure;
- Depression;
- Stress;
- Migraines/headaches
- Obesity/ Weight loss; and
- Hay fever.
Cupping therapy involves placing special glass or plastic cups on the skin and using suction to decompress the underlying tissue.

For fire cupping, a flame is briefly placed inside a glass cup and place on the body, this creates suction as the hot air cools. With plastic cups, a suction pump is used. Both techniques are used depending on the placement on the body.

The purpose of cupping is to release fascial (band of tissue) adhesion, pull out toxins embedded in your body, promote blood flow and increasing Qi in your body. The suction of the cups helps break up congested blood and assists in treating tight and sore muscles, particularly in the back, neck, shoulders and legs. Cupping therapy can also be great for athletes to improve performance and mobility.

Our cupping therapy treatment includes massage therapy using both the hands and a special massage gun.

At Paul's Acupuncture Clinic, not only do we want to help remove any tightness in your muscles or treat the pain, we want to work with you to solve the root of those aches and pains.

Does it hurt? Cupping therapy feels like a deep tissue massage and can be described as a relaxing experience. Our clients often fall asleep during the treatment!
